playing 7-8 home games, scheduling in 3 cake games (example: rarely leaving the south). If they played 9 SEC games, the top teams would most likely have one more loss (Tennessee, TA&M, LSU, Ole Miss....).
Then SEC is smart to schedule the way they do. It makes money and gives them a competitive advantage. Please committee, please penalize the SEC for scheduling like wimps, even though they do have strong programs.
Examples:
TA&M
• 8 home games
• OCC: Bowling Green, McNeese State and New Mexico State (plus ND)
• Furthest game: South Caroline (a blowout loss)
Tennessee
• 8 home games
• OOC: Chattanooga, UTEP, Kent State (plus a 4 loss NCSt.)
• Traveled to OU
Georgia
• 8 home games
• OCC: Clemson, Tennessee Tech, UMass, GT (better than most SEC's OCC)
• Kentucky (distance similar to BYU playing in St. George).
Best SEC schedule:
Alabama
• 7 home games
• OCC: Western Kentucky, USF (4 losses), @Wisconsin (4 losses), Mercer
• Traveled to Wisconsin (4 losses)
