Crowd/Atmosphere - Pretty amazing for an exhibition game. 16,000+. ROC was 85% full. Not the usual in-game production. Last year they obviously start that game 1, and then actually ramp it up a little bit in conference.
Offense - It's interesting to see the offense this year as compared to last year. Lots of the dribble handoffs and cuts that we saw last year are gone. Mostly it's on-ball screens and off ball motion stuff. Looked great overall. There were some possessions where things broke down, but overall good.
Defense - We allowed 12 points in the first half. But hard to tell against a DII team.
Coaching - During a timeout or stoppage in play Will Voigt would actually coach the guys up in the huddle while KY met with some other assistants and talked, drew up plays, etc. and then KY would go into the huddle and start talking. Voigt--at least in this game--seemed to have a leadership role among the assistants.
Egor Demin - He basically played in the 1st half only and had 12 assists. Sees the floor exceptionally well. Wasn't trying to score at all. He's exceptionally comfortable with the ball in his hands. Looked smooth and awesome.
Catchings - I posted about this a few weeks ago: I think he will be this team's leading scorer. We haven't had many like him at BYU. An absolute shot-making machine. Reminds me of T-Mac or maybe a smoother and more natural Jaxson Robinson. Just blown away by him.
Elijah Crawford - Tenacious son of a gun. He'll be a fan favorite in no time. He's a slap-the-floor on defense and pick up guys full court kind of guy. Great ball handler and can get into the lane anytime he wants.
Knell - Did Knell stuff. Absolutely deadly from 3. Looked very comfortable sliding to open spots and hitting shots. Good on D too.
Saunders - Just a DAWG. He's an even better shooter than last year.
Mag - Looked uncomfortable and out of place on offense. Bobbled some passes and was clearly in the wrong spot at times. Incredibly long on defense. There was one play where two CCU guys were passing back and forth on the wing and he was functionally guarding two guys really really well for a few seconds. Pretty awesome.
Boskovic - Got in briefly and got shots up. I actually think we kind of need him. We don't have a big who can shoot (Waterman style) without him.
Keita - Athletic freak. Had probably the best block I've ever seen in person. Blocked the thing literally into the 3rd row on the sideline...not the baseline. Seemed to not hold rebounding position well at times. Could have just been the type of game it was.
Dawson Baker - Looked good and looked healthy. Great shooter and can get to the hoop whenever he wants.
Kozlowski - Bigger and stronger than I expected. Hit a 3 and got some rebounds.
