Coming out of that contest, nobody had a good handle on exactly what that game meant. Lots of handwringing about ARod as the OC (6 three and out possessions). Lots of worry about Jake as the QB (3 turnovers). Lots of worry having lost the top two RBs to injury.
CougarBoard was thoroughly ho-hum about the win. Funny how the perspective of a couple months has changed things. That was a BIG win against a good team. They have a big game hosting #18 Pitt on Saturday. They have 3 of the final 4 games at home:
11/2 - vs #18 Pitt (70.2% chance to win - FPI)
11/9 - BYE
11/16 - vs Boston College (85.4% chance to win - FPI)
11/23 - at Virginia (79.8% chance to win - FPI)
11/30 - vs Cal (73.6% chance to win - FPI)
This is a 10- or 11-win, P4 team that BYU went on the road and beat. If SMU beats Pitt on Saturday, and Clemson gets a loss in conference (vs L'ville, at VT, at Pitt), this SMU team will be in the ACC CCG against Miami with BYU as the only blemish on their record.
Rooting for SMU to keep winning. Rooting for K-State to win until they lose on 11/30 in Farmaggedon. That will keep both teams ranked pretty highly and forming the basis for BYU's strength of record.
Something none of us were thinking back on September 7th.
