I'll preface this by saying my son is an average BYU applicant academically with poor extra-curricular activities. Still he wants to roll the dice and apply so I'm trying to be supportive and help where I can, although loving the idea of the flex GE program.
Question is regarding the "activities" section. This is when you would write about your typical sports/instrument/leadership/service etc. My son is weak on all that. He's worked on our family farm, which he wrote about in another section and other than that a few typical high school jobs that have been short term, partially because he's on the farm from spring to fall.
Would you write about what I think they are expecting which is a janitor job that he did for 6 months and try to pull the typical essay stuff from that OR go a little off the rails and talk about backpacking (which is an interest although not what he loses all track of time over 😉 ) and various trips he's done, which I do think are pretty impressive and have built character etc?
