Makes me think of the virtues of constrained optimization or creative constraints. The best businesses and organizations find a way to use guardrails to crystallize the value proposition --whether it is a time constraint, policy constraint, financial constraint. Such constraints actually motivate clarity and sharpness — which is what BYU coaches are doing with recruits. I love how Elder Gilbert has framed and clarified BYU athletics inside the larger mission. It's good for us to remember this as fans and alumni, and to help re-frame it with others.
