Everything is a trap game now. This post got a lot of POD but it makes fun of
a reality that takes place all over college football and particularly with BYU. IMO the trap game posters have it right.

Once you are 5-0 most of the nation is not, and your team is likely top 25. Most of the time at 7-0 you are top 10 and the undefeateds are a bare handful. If you don't think the crummiest teams in the country don't frequently figure it out for games against top teams than you must never watch college football. The last few decades of BYU football are like a perfect case study on this. We get ranked high and lose to someone who is not as successful so we overlook them.

Last week I saw a lot of confidence on here against OK State and we ended up barely winning, practically last second. Easily could have gone another direction. They absolutely played up for that game. Winning that one doesn't mean that we have it figured out for the next 5 games and we don't have to worry about the next opponents.

In high school my team won the State Championship for the first time ever but during the season we lost to a team we had no business losing to. I recall how painful that was to lose to a team we knew we were better than. We played them again in the playoffs and crushed them, went on to win a Championship against a team who had not lost the title in nearly 20 years. The margin for error in college football is way smaller.

From here on out and on the path to 12-0 or 11-1, BYU will make anyone's season who beats us, particularly if they are having a bad season. Every game is a trap game. I hope the team knows that and is hyper focused on getting a W rather than being respected. Respect is worth nothing without earning it.

Post your trap game comments because we need to be thinking about that a lot more than we need hype around the program. I'm not being negative just realistic. Only 2-4 teams end a season undefeated, because they get trapped somewhere along the way. If we start thinking a game like Kansas is in the bag we will lose one, almost with certainty.
