Utah is getting exposed, but it’s deeper than the team
Everybody is talking about how Utah is finally getting exposed.

To some extent, that is true. Whittingham built his reputation in a massively overrated league. It’s no coincidence that Utah’s PAC12 success occurred.when USC was playing .500 ball, when UCLA’s program was down, when Colorado was at an all-time low, when Arizona was at an all-time low, and when most of the league was either middling or downright awful.

That’s not to say that Utah hasn’t been good. Truth be told, Whittingham has created a VERY good and consistent program. But the on-field results the last 5 years shows that the “league of champions” was camouflage for a lot of teams, including Utah.

But this year’s on-field results is surface-level exposure.

The BIG exposure, IMO, has less to do with the team and much more to do with the Utah fanbase. Consider:

1. In the last year+, Utah has shown the Twitterverse its true colors, With the “realignment spotlight” shining directly on them, Ute fans have shown toxic arrogance and massive delusions of grandeur. They assured the world that the “Truck Stop Conference” was a mere stepping stone to the BIG10. They promised a cakewalk regular season, riding the golden arm of Cam Rising. They derided programs like Kansas State, Oklahoma State, and Iowa State, warning them to take a seat.

2. Merely months later, a badly limping “Scam Rising” would head for the bench under a rainstorm of jeers. Social media trolls would ridicule him, and the most passionate “fans” would demand he get benched so that Freshman phenom Isaac Wilson could get Utah back on top of the BIG12 pedestal where they belonged.

3. After a third loss, Ute fans exposed themselves again Saturday night, when the TV clearly captured the loud cheer: “Fire Ludwig (clap, clap, clap) - Fire Ludwig (clap, clap, clap)”. The beloved OC that took Utah to back-to-back Rose Bowls was next on the chopping block.

I’m rambling I think, but here’s my point: the Utah fanbase sucks, and the proof is in the pudding.

You only need to look at the Huntsman Center to point out the obvious - that it’s a mere bandwagon, without loyalty. Their fans (including the MUSS) will abandon ship once the outlook is no longer all “roses”.

As much as I dislike Utah, I can at least respect the few fans who have stuck with them through thick and thin over the years; the ones who supported Utah when the team was terrible and they played in a 32k stadium on vinyl carpet. But those fans are few and far between.
