the West proposing "vacancy" taxes on owners of second homes that are vacant more than six months a year.
We just bought a second home in St. George and I am sure it will be vacant the equivalent of six months a year (although not consecutive months). In the community where we purchased, 60% of the homes are second homes and only 40% are permanent residents.
Our property taxes are already 40% higher than if we were permanent residents. We pay a monthly HOA fee (whether we are there or not) that covers the private roads in the community among other things. Hopefully, St. George does not get the idea to do what is mentioned in this article.
