Hadn’t thought about this before. I love how our guy from Locked on the Big12
loves our conference so much and fights, fairly, for everyone to receive their credit due.
The whole 10 mins is worth listening to as he makes a very strong case for BYU and ISU to be much higher in the AP poll. Most of us say, “just win baby!” as if our wins will take care of everything. And that is 100% true when it comes to getting to the CFP.
However, equally true at the same time is the fact that AP voters influence the polls, which directly impact national viewership. He nails it on the head. If I’m flipping through the channel and I see a 5-1 Texas tech who isn’t ranked, why would I care to watch it (outside of having a personal connection to it)? If I see a 5-1 Notre Dame who is ranked #12, I’ll prob watch some of it. Never mind their loss to NIU.
That. Matters.
Those eyeballs equal dollars and those dollars are going to prop up the inflated S2 conferences when they shouldn’t be. I used to think the AP doesn’t matter. It does.
