The Big 12 is hands down the best conference for a team like BYU in the expanded
playoff era.

TL;DR: I think the new faces in the expanded playoff are going to come from the Big 12 and G5, far more than any of the other P4.

No blue bloods means the conference is wide open and there's not as much favoritism within the conference as in the other P4.

For example, in the ACC, why is 1-loss Clemson ranked 9 and undefeated Pitt ranked 20? Or in the Big 10, why is Michigan ranked with two losses, and not the other 4 Big 10 teams with just as good or better records?

Yes, there's still national bias that will keep the Big 12 to 1-2 playoff teams per year. But the Big 12 still gives a realistic 1/16 or 1/8 chance to make the playoff every year.

And it's a way better chance to make the playoff than most other teams in the P4, where a lot is or will be put in place to make sure that Alabama, Georgia, Clemson, tOSU, Michigan, Oregon, Texas, ND (by association with the ACC), and a few other schools that will likely rotate (Miami, Washington, USC, FSU, LSU, Auburn, Tennessee, Oklahoma, etc.) come out on top. A few others will make the expanded playoff on occasion, but probably not many.
