At some level, both conferences (more the MWC) are thinking of creative ways to hit 8 members and there are FCS teams (Tarleton State, Sacramento State) that are at making the push.

Meanwhile New Mexico State is sitting right there for the MWC. They’d accept in a second. The conference would hit 8 members. Easy. Done.

Instead the MWC is like, eh, let’s fly our non-revenue sports out to Hawaii from Wyoming. Or let’s sponsor this random team in the middle of Texas to transition to FBS. Or let’s fall for this propaganda scheme from Sacramento State to go to FBS despite the fact that they play in a gym that would be small for high-school teams (ok sure, they can move to the Kings arena, but this tells you their current sports investment.

Anyway, New Mexico must really hate New Mexico State.
