BYU football is winning the transfer portal sweepstakes! There was a time when
many on CB bemoaned the losses BYU was having to the TP, and I have to admit, I was really sad to see some of those players leave BYU, and wondered if we'd be as good without them. But BYU is winning in the TP per this SI recent article:
https://www.si.com/college/byu/football/bowl-projections-for-byu-football-after-5-0-start

Now I harbor no ill will vs those players that left, and wish them the best - just sad they won't be a part of BYU's success. Regardless, BYU seems to be winning this game, given the # of snaps players who left BYU are getting, and contributing to their new team, as opposed to the # of snaps players who came to BYU via the TP are getting, and who are major contributors to the BYU team on both offense and defense. Well, it's not even close - BYU transfers "in" are killing it the last two years, despite the attrition.

Now there's no way of knowing if the players who left would be getting more snaps at BYU if they'd stayed, than they are at their current team, or what the may do going forward (still hope the best for them), but as of now, with BYU being 5-0, and the teams players left to join not doing as well, it doesn't seem likely that they'd be getting more snaps on this talented BYU team, if they had stayed. Hence, our TP players are really amazing contributors the last two years.

In fact, 9 of 22 starters, and 21 of 44 on the 2 deep, are all transfer players (this includes JC transfers like Retzlaff, but still), so the TP has resulted in a lot of snaps and depth for BYU for the last 2-3 years.

TBH, I have to admit that I've been a big complainer, and bemoaner of the TP and NIL as a combo, as being a net negative for college sports (and in some ways it still is), but so far, BYU is winning at the TP in football, and seemingly winning at NIL in basketball.
