Lots of what ifs...
1. What if refs called obvious PI on push in the back. BYU would have had 1st and goal, and you would think BYU would have gotten at least a FG.

2. Missed FG by Ferrin. Hits 54-yarder but misses much shorter one where those 3 points would have made the game much less stressful.

3. Unsportsmanlike conduct penalty after BYU had 2nd and 5. Makes it 2nd and 20 instead and gives Baylor their TO back. If BYU makes a 1st down there they ice the game. Instead, they give Baylor another opportunity.

4. Baylor TD catch sure looked like foot was in the air when he caught the ball and never got a foot down in-bounds.

5. Dropped passes by Lassiter, especially the one over that would have given BYU a 1st down in Baylor territory. If he makes that catch the game likely doesn't get so "interesting" at the end.

6. Several really bad short passes by Retzlaff to players coming out of the backfield where they were wide open with room to run. Connect on even one of those and the game probably goes differently. This is something Retzlaff REALLY needs to work on.

I'm sure there were a lot of others.

A few more thoughts:

---Hopefully all the injuries sustained today were minor and everyone will be back healthy and ready to play against Arizona after the bye week.

---Seems like ARod turned overly conservative in the 2nd half, resulting in several 3-and-outs which gave Baylor much more life than they deserved.

---Defense saved the game at the end, but they have a lot to work on. They didn't always contain the Baylor QB and too many Baylor receivers were open all day. Having said that, their receivers were really good--made some great catches--and their QB made, mostly, very good throws.

---BYU didn't consistently get pressure on the Baylor QB. He often had plenty of time to survey the field, choose his target, and make the throw.

Final Thought:

I was VERY nervous about this game going in. An early morning game, on the road, with likely high temps and humidity didn't bode well for BYU. Their fast start was awesome, and the too-close-for-comfort finish after having a big lead was really frustrating. But, in the end, a win on the road against a team with their back against the wall is all that matters. Now, get healthy and address the issues that were apparent in this game and prepare for Arizona at LES in 2 weeks.
