Between saddling their own students with tons of debt, and losing money on their sports teams despite not playing the players, are any other businesses this bad with their money besides the government?
The solution for what to do with college sports is obvious. Get rid of “student” athletes and pay the players as employees of the university.
There is nothing about getting paid which is bad. Resident Assistants, professors, career advisors, janitors, sports camp counselors, are all paid and contribute to the university experience and outreach.
In the case of professors, their kids or spouses usually get discounted tuition and you could do the same for professional athletes.
Anyway, the way I’ve watched colleges sell out on their own students time and time again is disappointing.
