If you have a defense that causes havoc and creates turnovers and scores,
and have good special teams play, it is not surprising to be out gained by your opponent. This is because all of your scores happen via turnovers or very short fields, (less yards accumulated) whereas the opponent is forced to drive the length of the field, go for it on fourth down and be much more aggressive as they are playing from behind (more yards accumulated).

Once you are up big, you should be content to grind out the clock and play a more vanilla defensive scheme that will let your opponent drive between the 20s but prevents big plays, and tightens up once they're inside the 20s and prevents TDs. You are squeezing the life out of them much like a boa constrictor. This wasn't a fluke game, it was a masterful defensive performance that was over in the third quarter and where we then played it safe and yet our opponent was still unable to score a single touchdown.

If you've ever watched Utah smack down an opponent with elite defense, this is what one of those games look like. Should we be surprised at seeing this style of play, especially since both Jay Hill and Kalani coached at Utah? No, of course not. So stop complaining, if BYU's coaching staff wanted to run up the score and have tons of yards they could have, but they're class acts and chose to simply keep the win intact once it was secure. Make no mistake, BYU was the better team on Saturday.
