On defense and Kalani kept saying I guess we have to make it easier on them? Well, this defense is very complicated, comparatively. They have many different looks that bring blitzes from different places and different players dropping into coverage. It is not simple at all.

Yeah, this is a university that allows very few exceptions to their academic rules, it’s never about how easy or complicated the defense is. It’s about how well you coach and how well you instruct and how well you practice.

This is a very different defense than Utah runs. Utah runs a dominate d line defense. We are running a complex defense where the look changes constantly and the offensive line and qb don’t know who’s coming and who is dropping into coverage. I think that’s all Kalani knew before this year. If the defensive line wasn’t dominant he didn’t know what to do.

I firmly believe that we don’t ditch Kalani for Jay Hill. I believe that this is a top 10 defense, and getting there in 2 years will put Jay in a lot of head coaching conversations. I think he is gone sooner rather than later. When he does go I hope Kalani takes the defensive mentality and belief in the disruption a defense can bring and applies it to his future team.
