No one had BYU going 4-0 and being ranked by this point in the season on their bingo card. But was this team unfairly underrated to start the season? I think so.
Once we got blasted by West Virginia and Iowa State in November, things seems bleak. But we suddenly had a good Oklahoma team on the ropes and should have won if not for a terrible interception. Similarly, we competed very well against Ok State the following week. Yes it stinks we didn't win either and weren't bowl eligible as a result, but something started to shift towards the end of the season for the better.
Now that we have a decent run game established again, a dominant defense, star wide receivers, and Caleb Etienne can actually play football now, I think this could be a really good season.
I'm not naive enough to think Retzlaff won't have more ill-timed turnovers, but as a team I think we have the talent. Time will prove if we have the depth and injury luck to sustain this level of play but so far it's looking promising 🤞
