I think we'll see BYU defend Avery Johnson similar to how we saw them play Jennings in the 2nd Half of the SMU game. And let me preface my thoughts by saying that the key to all of this will be BYU's interior DL holding up against K-State's run game. We have been dominant through three games and we're gonna need another great performance to allow everyone else to focus on Johnson.

-Rush with a 3-man front focusing more on lane integrity and keeping him in the pocket than actual sacks
-Bracket him with 2 spies at all times
-Every time he puts the ball in a RBs belly on an RPO, attack the mesh point with the backside spy and hit him immediately if he pulls it
-Play the Safeties deeper to prevent throws over the top
-Mix in a lot of cloud coverage by the corners to prevent easy throws underneath
-Make Johnson prove he can consistently hit intermediate throws over the LBs and under the Safeties


I view Avery similar to how I view the 2013 version of Taysom, though not as physical. The defenses that played that 2013 BYU Offense the best limited Taysom's big runs and forced him to execute the more difficult throws to move the ball. At that point in his career Taysom was simply too erratic as a passer to move the ball up & down the field with the intermediate passing game against good defenses.
