from fans. I'm not exactly predicting anything (except that I'll be pleasantly shocked if we win more than 6 games and not surprised if we only win 4-5). The only thing I'm really predicting is the guaranteed response from certain true-blue-faithful-loyal-supportive-never-say-die-always-positive-super-righteous fans:
After Kansas St game:
"Well, nobody actually thought we could beat a ranked team like Kansas State. We were over a TD underdog for a reason. We're still 3-1 and beating Baylor should be much more doable."
After Baylor game:
"Well, Baylor game. Just our luck that Baylor happened to start righting their ship just in time for BYU to come to town. Still have a winning record and NOBODY thought we'd be 3-2 at this point."
After Arizona game:
"Still having a .500 season, I'll take it, not ideal, but I still believe in Sitake, remember that win against Tennessee??"
After OK St game:
"We all knew this was a loss going into the season. They're one of the top teams in the conference."
After UCF game:
"UCF is way better than anybody thought they would be this year. Can't expect to win this type of game on the road, need a few more years to build depth."
After Utah game:
"Utah sucks. Great win" (can't bring myself to imagine losing to utes)
After Kansas game:
"Kansas has had a rougher season than we expected, but there's a reason they were ranked last year and this year. Great game, if only a couple other plays went our way, we could have been competitive."
After AZ St game:
"Well, sure the season has been a bit disappointing, but there's so much positive to look forward to. Sitake is still learning the ropes of coaching in a P4 conference and we're just a few players away from competing."
After Houston game:
"Whooo, boy, who knew that Houston and Baylor would both hit their stride against us?? Nothing could be done. We have so many injuries! Well, basketball season is starting off fantastic!!"
I love BYU football. I hate some of the coaching decisions and it's frustrating watching ineptitude on the field and in recruiting that seems like it would be relatively easy to correct. And I find too many fans (true of every team I'm sure) to be really quite irrational. And you may think "rah rah rah" is the best way to fan, but I think it's one of the things that can hold an organization back from making the necessary changes and improvements. We all want BYU to win, I just think that is more likely to happen after changes are made at the top. Flame away.
