The problem with Retzlaff is consistency, not inability.
The dude can sling it. He throws a beautiful deep ball.

This was on full display Saturday night when he threw an absolute dime to Roberts on a deep sideline pass... then threw a "no look" screen pass that should have been a pick 6.

In BIG12 play, that's a pick-6 90% of the time. And it most likely assures BYU a loss.

There are times when Retzlaff looks like an absolute star. Then he throws a ball in the dirt or throws a head-scratcher into triple coverage.

It seems to me that he gets in trouble when he does 2 things:

1. He throws off his back foot, or without a wide base.

2. He rushes himself and tries to force a play that just isn't there. I don't know if it's panic or over-confidence - but either way it's problematic.

Only time will tell if Retzlaff is capable of becoming as consistent as we need him to be, but I'm telling you, the kid has the arm talent and the capability. We'll see if he has the mental capability.
