Live in Utah want to buy a car in California
Dealership is telling me I pay sales tax to California and then drive home and register in Utah.
I've bought cars out of state before and I always paid Utah Sales Tax and Registration when I got the vehicle home.
I wouldn't be surprised if California has their own set of rules but I don't want to pay sales tax to California and then to Utah, that would kill the deal.

Google is a mixed bag of answers depending on if you ship the vehicle or want to drive it home. There also seems to be a difference if you finance vs pay cash for some reason.
I'd prefer to just drive it home but if it makes sense to ship I'm open to that as well.

Anybody know how this is really supposed to work?

TIA
