2011: BYU QB Jake Heaps gets benched for Riley Nelson. Nelson rallies the struggling BYU offense to a 4th quarter comeback. Nelson was named the starter after the game and Heaps transferred to Kansas at the end of the season.
2012: With seconds remaining in the game, the BYU offensive coordinator called a QB run instead of a kneel down. Freshman Taysom Hill took a shot to the knee on the run and tore his MCL. The OC was fired at the end of the season.
2013: USU QB Chuckie Keaton landed awkwardly on a scramble play, tearing his ACL. He was out for the rest of the season. He was replaced by Craig Harrison.
2014: BYU QB Taysom Hill broke his leg on a QB sweep. Interestingly enough, the Utah State tackler was the exact same player that hit his leg two years before (neither play was dirty). Hill was out for the rest of the season. He was replaced by Christian Stewart.
2015: No QB injuries or benchings
2016: BYU QB Taysom Hill suffered an Arm Elbow Sprain after attempting to hurdle a tackler. This was his final play in a BYU uniform. He was replaced by Tanner Mangum.
2017: BYU QB Beau Hoge (filling in for the injured Tanner Mangum) was knocked out of the game with a concussion. He was replaced by Koy Detmer Jr.
2018: BYU QB Tanner Mangum was benched late in the fourth quarter for true freshman QB Zach Wilson as Utah State went on to secure their first back-to-back victories over BYU since 1974. Mangum never started another game.
2019: BYU QB Jaren Hall (filling in for the injured Zach Wilson) was knocked out of the game with a concussion. He was replaced by Baylor Romney.
2021: BYU QB Baylor Romney (filling in for the injured Jaren Hall) was knocked out of the game with a concussion. He was replaced by Jacob Conover.
