But after re-watching the play It ended up being a “lucky bounce” for SMU. The player was completely knocked down on the pass rush and then when he stood back up he was right where he needed to be.
In the live speed of the game, I don’t think QBs often account for a knocked down player near the LOS. The call was fine. The general execution was fine. Almost cost us the game.
One other first for me occurred in this game as well. When we stripped the ball while the guy was running full speed down the field. The ball (best I can see) bounced off the runner’s knee/leg/foot right back in front of him to maintain possession without breaking a stride.
Second INT his arm was hit by a second unseen defender while throwing it away. I don’t feel as bad about that turnover. Retzlaff’s fumble. Yeah, that was carelessness with the ball.
