SMU fans are super classy, but the experience didn't feel P4.
I kinda thought they would be a little hostile when we kind of took over their stadium. We had a ton of fans there, and my experience has been before that other fans don't like when we do that to them and show up in force all over their stadium. But all of the ones I interacted with were super classy.

Case and point... I was floored when I saw that they let the missionaries all walk out on the field and perform during the halftime show. I've never seen or heard of that before at any other away game.

That said, their gameday experience left a lot to be desired. It definitely felt more G5 than P4. Their pre-game has this count down timer to this build up that was ultimately just like 12 cougarette-equivalent girls *walking* out. They did have a pony on the field a bit later, which my kids thought was cool. Also, there was almost no time out on-field entertainment to speak of. Time outs were notably boring, nothing like ours where it seems like we do something different with every one of them to engage the fans. It's a good thing the game was entertaining, because otherwise, we would've been super bored.

And how in the world do they not do replays, especially during official reviews, on their big screens?!? I hope you guys are home had fun watching replays of the fumble review, for example, because we got no replay reviews at all in the stadium.

And then I don't know how, but nobody scanned our ticket as we came in. We just walked right through and into the stadium. I've never even seen that at G5.

Changing subjects, but say what you will about Kalani, but that guy has trained his team to engage with the fans, which is super fun. My kids loved interacting with the players and team after the game. I know other programs do this too, but I don't think it's to the same level as Kalani's team. Well done, seriously. He's building life-long fans.

As for game analysis, I don't think I saw much in person that wasn't apparent on TV. I did notice that Gerry Bohanon never really seemed to be engaged. Every time Jake turned it over, I'd look over at Gerry on the sideline. He never got his helmet on. It had to be disappointing that Jake turned it over 3 times, and he still didn't get pulled. I trust the coaches on this, and I believe in Jake, but on a personal level, I feel for Gerry.

Go Cougs! Great win!
