Capable half ton good enough to tow a 5th wheel or do I need a 3/4 ton?
If I am looking to pull a fifth wheel that has a base weight of ~8,000 pounds will a truck that has 5th wheel towing capacity of 10,000 pounds be enough or will it struggle?

It would struggle. Fully loaded you’d likely be over 10,000 and you actually want to shoot for <75% max towing capacity.

I agree with Hungry Coug. If it's an option to go with a 1 ton or 3/4 ton I would do it.

It’s not about towing capacity, it’s about payload. You’ll likely need a 1 ton
