What’s the better option: do something fun at Matanuska, then do the 3 hour drive to Valdez, or

Take in the view at Matanuska but spend the time on the drive to Valdez, and maybe take a detour to Chitina (adds 1.5 hours round trip) or even McCarthy (would make it a marathon with an additional 5ish hours round trip).

Is it worth the hours in the car just for the journey if we’re spending only a short time in Chitina or McCarthy? I’m OK with a scenic drive as the destination, just not having driven any of this route it’s hard to know if it’s worth the detour to see Chitina or, especially McCarthy.

I’m checking into air options but we’ll be there late in the season so the companies start to close down about then.
