A couple of months ago, Pope left without a backward glance, our highest rated recruit in years soon followed, and then it looked like most of our best players were on the way out the door too.
Now, we have a coach with the best incoming resume of any we've ever hired, who it turns out is also the best recruiter we could have ever imagined. Probably the strongest overall coaching staff too. Other than Kevin Young himself, the person I'm most grateful to is Tom Holmoe. Even before this hire, the anti-Holmoe talk was extremely annoying to me, because he has overseen a top notch athletics department during his tenure, and pulled off the most consequential move in our history by getting us into the Big 12. Post-Young hire, Holmoe should be on the Mount Rushmore of BYU athletic department greats.
Maybe it is time to trust that he is also thinking about what it will take to get our football program to the next level. Holmoe has earned a lot of trust IMO.
