I'm seeing a whole lot of PTSD about past BYU failures in March. I get that. But I'm sorry... what Reid, Cleveland, Rose and Pope did has no bearing whatsoever on KY.

But, but, but... Duquesne! Forget our soft team last year that was a one trick 3-pointer pony. We didn't have Keba last year. We didn't have Mag. We didn't have Bosko talking crap to the other bench after popping threes. Trey wasn't playing last year. We got some toughness to us now.

So let's just talk match up. Everyone is scared that VCU is a "great defensive team". I'm willing to bet significant money that if they played in the Big 12 they wouldn't be near as good defensively as Iowa State and WVU. And they sure as heck ain't no Houston.

So they beat up on a bunch of sub-100 teams, so what. These guys aren't battle tested like we are. They played three Q1 games. Three. We played FIFTEEN.

As far as personnel, I think we match up with them just fine:

1. They don't have a star point guard. Elite 1's like LJ Cryer are the toughest matchup for us. They don't have one of those.
2. Their 2 best players (by a lot) are both 6'4/6'5 2-guard/wings. Guess what folks, that happens to be our strength. I'll take Richie, Mag, Knell against their wings all day long.
3. They rely on some rail skinny bigs that go 6'10/215 and 6'10/200. Those dudes are going to have PTSD after playing Keba and Fouss.
4. They talk like they'll grind the game down... but don't get it twisted, these guys like to shoot. They attempted nearly 28 threes per game. I could see them getting sucked into a 3PT shooting barrage against us the way ISU did.
5. We're deeper than they are.

This is the KY era now. Forget the Wasatch-laden rosters of the past and offenses designed by Terry Nashif. That era of BYU basketball is a thing of the past.

This is KYU now fellas. We got an international roster and elite coaches. Let's freaking go. Bring on VCU.
