first of all, dawson baker has got to get off the court entirely. he brings nothing special on defense and on offense he just seems kind of timid shooting the ball and really has struggled driving into the land because he hasn't been able to handle any contact. second, trevin knell needs his minutes cut down. he also doesn't bring much defensively and while we can use his shooting, he tends to shoot significantly worse against good teams (aka the entire big 12). i would much rather give mag and boskovic minutes one, because they are both significantly better defenders (knell and baker combine for 1.5 stocks per game in 35 minutes and boskovic and mag combine for 1.9 per game in 20 minutes). plus mag is shooting a very respectable 37.5% from three this season so i don't understand the seemingly common belief that he can't shoot or messes up our spacing. two, we have been really struggling to rebound the ball and knell and baker combine for 5 rebounds in 35 minutes a game and mag and boskovic combine for 4 rebounds in 20 minutes per game not to mention boskovic is 6'10! and mag is 6'7 which should give us a huge boost if we can stick boskovic in with fouss or keita. this brings up my next point. egor and canon have got to start playing like they are 6'9. a lot of our defensive struggles have come from getting out of rotation and left a smaller player in the paint with a big, but i feel like its not unreasonable to suggest that demin and catchings (or boskovic!) can hold down the paint until our bigs can get back into rotation, and we've seen kanon make some impressive defensive plays already. next, kevin young needs to get egor and kanon to focus on getting into the paint. egor has been better at this the past couple games than the start of the season but again he is 6'9, theres no reason his whole game shouldn't be based on getting into the paint and running downhill pick and roll (especially with all of the spacing in the nba). kanon spends too much time sitting on the wing doing nothing, which I don't blame on him, he is probably the most all around athletic player on the team we need to get him to attack the paint aggressively instead of settling for contested jumpers because I believe he can finish at the rim against the huge big 12 centers and because it will open up our shooters like richie and give us a reason to keep knell and baker in the game. finally, kevin young simply needs to get taller bigs next season. i love fouss and hes a great offensive weapon, but he has struggled because he is 4 inches shorter than the rest of the big 12 centers. keita is more athletic which gives him more of a chance on defense and rebounding, but again those three inches make a difference and keba doesn't give enough on the offensive end to really make up for it.
