from coaches. Coaches will figure these out but they haven't yet. Guys are being asked to do things they can do against lesser competition but can't do against B12 opponents. We are not as good (the players are not as good) as coaches thought they were. Now that we're playing against really good competition that has become clear. The coaches haven't adjusted.
There may not be an adjustment the coaches are familiar with that the players can execute that will allow us to win enough games this year. What I liked about Pope was he seemed to have got the kids coached up enough to win at the college level with what was clearly inferior talent.
I don't think KY has that understanding yet. I don't believe he will get it this year-- not because I don't think he's capable, but because to put together and implement that kind of a system is not something one does in a few weeks. It just isn't.
I am confident enough to be willing to state that we will not make the NCAA tournament this year. I don't think we will win more than 2 conference road games, and I don't think we will sniff a conference tourney win. Demin and Catchings are talented but still too young, and KY doesn't have the answer this year and he won't. That's my prediction.
I'm not calling for his head, I'm just stating what seems to be the case to me. KY is still very very much an unproven coach at the collegiate level.
