I hate the “no contact on a slide” rule. If the runner wants to avoid contact,
have them run out of bounds or just fall/sit down. They mark the player down at the start of the slide anyway. Why should it be on the tackler to defy the laws of physics and stop their body’s momentum after they have initiated a tackle? Let the runner go down if they want and if the tackler hits them after they have deliberately hit the ground, then throw a flag like you would a roughing or unnecessary roughness call.

The announcers clambering for a penalty on Batty after he did everything possible to pull out of his already-initiated tackle when Sanders was sliding pissed me right off. It wasn’t a penalty, but the announcers thought it was and a crappier ref could have thrown a flag even though Batty only hit Sanders with his legs after he flew over the top of him.

Stupid rule all around. I hate to see the wimpification of football.
