Every Christmas my wife's sister sends us a large Harry & David gift basket/box/tower (etc..).

and Every Christmas there is a fight to get to the gold foil-covered pear(s) first. As head of the house, I always stake claim to the gold-foil pear(s)... and proclaim them mine. As the house peasants, the kids always try to sneak/take/steal the gold pear(s), and it has become a long-standing tradition of capture the flag/pear.

Legend said the gold pear was a different, and more exclusive, type of pear... but today we learned its the same as all the other pears, just wrapped in gold to make it appear more special.

The battle for the pear will continue in 2025... but I'm sure there will be shouts of "Idiot, it's the same pear I have!" from the common little folk (my kids).
