The family of my daughter's friend do some things differently in their home when it comes to chores.

First off, they never cook. In fact, they don't really have any food in their kitchen. It's not because they're too poor. They're eating fast food basically every day instead. But if you want a snack, then forget about it at that house. When my daughter's friend is over, she'll often look for food at our house.

Second, they don't do laundry. They actually pay a service to pick up their dirty clothes, wash them, and then bring them back to the house. They've done this for years. Apparently they do have a washing machine but it's broken. The friend has actually asked my wife to wash a couple of things for her in the past.

They have a very cluttered house. They won't even let their daughter take any friends upstairs ever, because they're pretty embarrassed about it. It's also been like that for years.

The only thing I can think of is that the parents work a lot and just don't want to deal with these chores. The daughter is their only kid (she's 14 years old) living at home so I guess it could be worse if they had more kids. At least they mow the grass.
