Former Cougar update - Marcus Adams
It is interesting to contemplate players who have moved on from BYU since Coach Pope's departure, but one we haven't heard much about is Marcus Adams. Of course, Marcus was here just one season as a freshman last year who had a circuitous road to BYU before getting injured and playing really in just one game last year. He then transferred in the offseason, although he really liked BYU, to be close to home and his mother and younger siblings after his father's untimely death. Marcus was a 4-star recruit, good size at 6'8" with solid athleticism, and the ability to both play inside, rebound, and shoot from three.

He ended up close to home at CSU-Northridge, and he's played in 10 games for them this season. They have a 7-3 record so far in the preseason. Marcus is a sophomore and is getting regular rotation minutes for them this year. He actually seems to be playing very well. His statistics so far for the season are as follows:

* 27.5 minutes per game - that's a lot of court time as a sophomore.
* 15.2 Points per game - really solid scoring, usually between 12 and 20 points a game, high of 25 points this season
* Offensive efficiency - 53.9% field goal average, on about 11 shots a game; 38.6% 3-point average on about 4 shots per game; good numbers; 73% free throw average
* Other - he's averaging 5 rebounds, 1 assist, and 1.5 personal fouls and turnovers a game - so, not getting in tons of foul trouble, good rebounding numbers; scoring efficiency is 1.32 on the season, that's a good number too.
* I can't say anything about his defense, as I haven't watched him play this season - someone else know?

Anyway, thought this would be an interesting update. I seem to recall that BYU had an offer out to his younger brother, but that kid might want to also stay closer to home and support their mother. I liked Marcus and he seemed to have a good experience at BYU. Was young and went through a lot of growing pains with injury, family death, adjustment to new place at a young age, learning the work ethic for college basketball, etc. Hope he continues to play well.

I'd be interesting in seeing BYU pursue him if he ever went into the portal and wanted to move again in his college experience.
