The Portal and reducing roster numbers to 105 players -
Listening to the radio today, they took a short bit from Bronco's press conference or an interview shortly after his press conference around joining USU. They were talking about the portal as well as scholarships and schools being required to cut the numbers to 105 players next year. And some things that Bronco said about that.

Bronco mentioned that he knew of some teams - P5/4 teams - who had as many as 150 players on them. And who would be cutting to 105. Initially the discussion was about schools keeping kids on the team through spring camp and the portal being flooded when suddenly there are thousands of kids hitting the portal because they don't fit within the 105 player max the NCAA will allow.

One of the questions they talked about was - how many schools will cut additional players above what is required to get to 105 in order to potentially pull in kids from other schools. Or will they keep their own 105.

Then the host mentioned that he'd looked into it further - and schools actually aren't required to cut to 105 until the end of fall camp and prior to the 1st game. And the speculation was that it would be entirely possible for some kids to be kept on the team through fall camp in order to give coaches enough players to practice more easily - and then hundreds or thousands of kids getting cut from the team at the end of fall camp with nowhere to go. Schools won't keep too many roster spots at the beginning of the season to pick up players because they'll want kids who have been in camp and have been picking up the plays and positions responsibilities.

With this in mind - it's entirely possible that schools bring in additional players between spring and fall camp, let those guys compete with other guys on the 105 man roster from spring, and then cut whoever doesn't make it in that competition - still leaving a ton of players with nowhere to go in the fall.

Anyway - I thought it could be interesting to see how all of this plays out. And it could be pretty tragic for a lot of kids.
