If Rev share makes up most of Aj's $5M one year deal...who can explain how rev share works?

Wasn't rev share the point of NIL? The colleges were making lots of money from their star players via ticket sales, merchandise, and even TV rights back in the day. It makes sense to offer key players a share of revenue but I am not sure I understand how it works.
