I can't see top tier teams ever breaking off on their own
They know their strength is playing a 2 to 3 tough opponents and then mopping up with a lot of terrible opponents. The rich need to feast on the poors to remain rich.

Furthermore, the good Ole boy network is real between the Bamas and the Vandys of the world. The poverty programs that constitute 60-70% of the SEC and B1G will never be left behind.

If you see a new division, it's the SEC and B1G as presently constituted (plus big adds like Clemson, Miami, Fla State)
