Looking back at every national champion for the past while and the vast majority have a TE that got drafted. And that's with deep WR rooms too which basically every NC winner has had also. So this idea that our TE get fewer targets because our WRs are just so good doesn't hold water. Especially when you consider Chase got ~4 catches per game this year and the prevailing CB wisdom is that he got fewer touches because teams game-planned for him and double-teamed. Would have been nice to have TE play take the pressure off and make hay.
TE play is very important to an offense and the teams who do something special usually have one they can rely on and makes it to the NFL. Who cares if you can name great TEs throughout college football history outside of BYU?
I think our offense will always be limited if we don't recruit and utilize great TE play. It's been a staple at BYU for a long time and with good reason. Unfortunately it's largely disappeared as of late.
