I think the offense had issues all season long and especially after teams learned to just blitz Jake a lot. But this was covered up during the first half of the season as the defense did better than expected. The defense was able to create a lot of timely turnovers and create great scoring opportunities for the offense. The ball just seemed to bounce BYU's way during that time period.
But the lucky bounces ran out a bit and the offense was forced to be more consistent which it really wasn't capable of doing yet. Combine that with a really slow approach to the game, the offense had to be nearly perfect on every drive which was too high of a bar.
