bluecougar1985 Intervention Needed
Here is what I’d like to see that wouldn’t require any more games than what
has already been allowed for a team with the 12 team playoff.

16 team playoff

top 6 conference champions

4 highest 2nd place teams (potentially could eliminate a game here if you want by getting rid of conference championships)

6 at large, but allow a maximum of 2 at large for a conference.

So in reality here is what that looks like… 4 SEC, 4 B1G, 2 Big 12, 2 ACC, the next 2 best conference champs, and a remaining 2 at large spots for teams not in the SEC or B1G.

You could let a committee rank the teams for selection process, and stipulate no conference games in the first round. Could even throw in some seeding guarantees for conference champs if you want.

Will this ever happen? No

Will it possibly go to 16 to guarantee 5 spots for the two big conferences? Maybe
