Positives from yesterday:
Free throw shooting was fastly improved.
Catchings came out of his shooting slump and showed signs of being more aggressive play at end of game.
Fouss was dominant and is going to draw a double team throughout the season probably vs everyone
Overall played a talented senior laden team toe to toe
Boskovic is getting more comfortable
Saunders was amazing in the first half
Had a well executed play coming out of a time out.
Concerns:
Demin didn't take advantage of opportunities to attack the rim. I am a strong believer that you have to attack pressure. Should be easy to fix, just be more aggressive.
Hall didn't give us much at all. Wasn't able to stop point guard penetration. Wasn't able to penetrate himself. Shot wasn't close. Hopefully this is due to his layoff. If not then his minutes should go to a better shooter (Knell) or a better penetrator (Baker) or better defender (Stewart or Crawford).
Baker needs to learn how to play against long armed, athletic pressure. You can't get fancy with the ball and you have to be very decisive. If he can, he will give us a much needed weapon to make teams pay for extended tight man defense. If he can't, he should sit.
Should we have tried a little more Steward/Crawford to disrupt their point guard? We need to get more comfortable on situational challenges. Be able to bring in a defensive guy (Mag/Steward/Crawford) without giving up too much in game flow/chemistry. Like have Mag come in for d and then run the offense through Fouss and have him kick out and have a couple rotation passes to Mag that can now slash to the hole. I didn't think Crawford would have much of a role but he is a potential solution to a glaring problem. if he can get some experience, he could offer d on quick guards and be able to penetrate creating opportunities for Fouss and shooters.
Overall, I think KY and crew are going to figure it out. We have all the necessary tools to compete against anybody. Hopefully we get those tools developed and playing together by the end of the season to make a deep run.
