would love to see something like this:

1. Autobids for every conference. P5 gets 2 autobids, G5 conferences get 1.

2. Conferences can each put in their own process for determining autobids. It could vary based on P5 vs G5 and also affected by number of teams in each conference. Maybe the team at the top of the standings get a spot and then a play-in for the other spot? There’s a lot of ways this could be done and it’s probably not a one size fits all across all conferences. But either way, autobids for each conference would be a really good thing.

3. Committee is then left to determine seeding as well as select 3 at-large teams.

That would leave us with a 16 team playoff and be more than doable. We already have a week zero where most teams don’t play. Bump the season up a week or remove a regular season game (or potentially both) to make ample room for play-in games and the expanded playoff.

This would affect how we view conference championships currently. We would essentially have to shift to the conference champ being based on standings on not a championship game. Because if you were at autobid for the playoff as the top team, you wouldn’t want to then play in a pretty meaningless conference championship game.

Okay that’s all I got. I know it would never happen. Just annoyed that money and power corrupts everything.
