I am pretty sure the CFP rules will continue to be tweaked over the next few years
as the SEC and B10 see how things play out year-to-year. Pretty sure the SEC/B10 cabal is not going to like the fact Boise St gets a bye (assuming it plays out that way) even though everyone knew it was a possibility. The SEC is still going to feel like their 3-loss teams like Bama and TAMU are more "deserving" of a spot than the B12, ACC and G5 teams. I expect them to flex their muscles in trying to further rig the process.

Ultimately, I really think there is a good chance the SEC and B10 lead a movement to split off and create their own league and playoff system and leave the have-nots behind. Outside the SEC/B10, everyone is pushing for a more fair system. I actually think it will evolve to a less fair system in favor of the so-called "power" conferences. And by power, I mean just the SEC and B10 who have self-annointed themselves as such.
