My Game Report
Random thoughts from the game…
1. The first half sucked. I heard multiple ASU fans sitting around us make some comment along the lines of “This is a lot easier than I thought it would be.”
2. ASU fans were fine for the most part. Except the students. The ones we interacted with were mostly garbage. Some kid was out of in front the security line running up to BYU fans and saying “Shake my hand!!” And then when they went to shake his hand he would do this exaggerated “SIKE!!!” And pull it back. Weird.
3. When the ASU fans rushed the field (the first time) there quite a few that ran into the team bench area and got in players’ faces. It was a really bad look. You want to rush the field? Fine, go celebrate with your team. Don’t go start crap with players.
4. When they didn’t make it on 4th down and BYU got the ball back, ASU fans around me were pretty convinced they were going to lose. BYU just looked really comfortable moving the ball in the second half. Which made the interception all the more devastating. And when the interception happened, it was so out of nowhere that the fans lost their minds. The stadium got crazy and the ASU fans directly in front of us got really aggressive. Turning around and getting in the faces of BYU fans. Morons.
5. They are not used to selling out games. BYU fans bought soooo many tickets. Lots of comments along the lines of “where did all these people come from?” “It usually isn’t this crowded.” “I’ve never seen so many people at a game.” BYU fans showed up. It was great.
6. The ASU game day leaned heavily into the ASU-Church connection. Lots of game highlights and promos during timeouts that emphasized the LDS members of the ASU fan base. Lots of T-shirts along the lines of “Mormons for ASU”. I don’t think I’ve seen anything like that before from a school admin that so heavily focused on the connection to the church.
7. It took almost an hour to get out of the parking garage. Traffic was a joke.
8. I really want to play these guys again in the CCG. I BELIEVE IN KSU! BEAT ISU! LET’S GO!
