My two least-favorite plays in football
1. Running out of the gun on 4th and short - how many times have we seen this get stopped for a loss? Why give the DLine time to break through? In my opinion, 4th and short is always under center. Run it out of the gun if it's an RPO or play action.

2. Fade route in GL situations - only do this if you have a major mismatch like Mitch Matthews against a 5-10 corner. Otherwise, a low-percentate play but keeps being called.

I know this is late, but Retzlaff cannot throw the GL fade. His release point is too low. We ran it twice in the last two games and both times ended up in game-changing interceptions (2pt conversion against utah and end of 1st half against Kansas). If we plan on running this again, Jake better have thrown this 100 times in practice this week.

*edit*
Just wanted to add that the data shows the best play to run in 4th and short is QB sneak under center.

"On a 4th and short situation, the most successful play is almost always a quarterback sneak; studies show that QB sneaks have a very high conversion rate, often exceeding 80% on 4th and 1 situations, making it the statistically best option for short yardage on fourth down."
