BYU Frustrations, like clockwork
I've been watching BYU for decades now. Some things I've seen under the current administration that always seems to lead to some disappointment.

Game management - Questionable clock management. It seems like even though we've had more than 10 years with Kalani, he still has not managed to perfect, or even come close, to providing consistently good game/clock management. This is very frustrating, and you would expect to see improvements in this as a coach "matures." This year has had a multitude of scenarios where this has come to the forefront.

Situational Awareness and Adjustments - I am always frustrated at the lack of awareness by our coaches. How many times have I called the play they were going to run before they did exactly that. Unfortunately, I'm not surprised by their play-calling much. I wish I was. They are predictable, and need to be more creative. I would love to see adjustments AS the game goes, not laying eggs until half-time and then making adjustments. This is easily coachable.

Discipline and Consistency - Probably my two biggest pet peaves for BYU. Kalani may be a great players coach, but I don't see discipline in our team. At least not consistently. When you hear post-game comments by players (Chase Roberts) about COMPLACENCY and not having a good practice the week prior.....that is extremely disappointing. BYU has a tendency to get too high on themselves. Maybe it shows in Kalani's dance moves. Cocky, instead of confident. And their pride caused them to have a bad practice week, leading to a game where they felt entitled to win. Well, you are not. And every week should be approached as if everyone hates you, and you have something to prove. BYU is NOT good at maintaining its shoulder's chip.

This may be extreme, and I am joking, but I've told my wife that I feel sometimes that every player needs to line up and get literally punched in the face before the game. They need to be angry, fierce, and determined. I don't see that out of this team consistently.

You shouldn't have to lose a game to have a wake up call.

That being said, their destiny is still in their hands, and I am hopeful for a big response this weekend.
