O played not to lose, instead of playing to win. That’s the most frustrating
Thing about the game. This could have so easily been a win, and a comfortable win at that, if the O could have gotten it together. We had so many opportunities to take and/or widen our lead.

- The pick in the EZ. I don’t mind the play call at all. Fade to the TE, it can take the D by surprise on first and it’s a low risk play because… THE BALL SHOULD BE THROWN TO BACK CORNER WHERE ON THE THE TE HAS A CHANCE AT IT. That throw was absolutely TERRIBLE. I get that the DB leveraged the TE further outside than the QB was expecting, but the ball should never be throw that far inside on that play. It needs to be outside shoulder or OB. (This will factor in later as well). Could have been 17-10 going into the half.

-Long methodical drive to start the half. It was an amazing drive. I’d love that drive if we were up 7 or more. But to only come away with 3, that was a moral buster IMO. Could have been 24-10 which is a completely different game, but instead we’re at 13-10.

-Second to last drive, after the PICK. That pick should have swung the momentum back to us but instead we get 1 first down and the fail to drive any further and PUNT, absolutely brutal.

-LAST drive. We looked great moving the ball all the way until the 15, then…crap. Run 3 times in a row for a gain of 4 total yards. This redzone series is the worst case of playing not to lose. Afraid to throw, worrying about running the clock instead of scoring (I don’t mind milking the clock if we only need a FG, but we need a TD, just score). I think 3rd down was supposed to be a pass but Retzlaff I think had lost some confidence from the pick at the end of the half and audibles to the option. It had been successful this game, but I hated it on 3rd and 6 with the game on the line. Then the center doesn’t snap the ball on time on 4th, and on 4th and 11 we throw it 9 yards. That had GOT to be thrown past the sticks especially in the middle of the field. Horrible last series of downs.

I would have liked to see the D get off the field more on 3rd down in the second half, but they got the ball back for the O plenty of times, and were pitching a second half shutout if not for the fluke pooch punch. That was super unexpected and the DB could have really avoided the ball hitting him in the helmet when he’s focused on guarding the receiver. Good on Robinson for recognizing the situation and trying to get on the ball, it’s a shame he couldn’t secure it.

Again, this game is squarely on the O. They moved the ball fine, out rushed Kansas, and had over 100 yards more on Offense, but just couldn’t score TDs or execute in the Red Zone.
