A parable, if you will:

Very homely Utah was in a relationship with a basement-dweller but fellow D&D player and big talker PAC12.
PAC12 lost his job and his mom told him no more dating

Stud Big12 sees Utah's in distress and asks her out to help her feel better before it's about to get real between him and hot chick BYU.
Instead of graciously accepting, Utah acts like all is fine with PAC12 and that she's too good for stud Big12. "Give me a break. I would never go out with you"

PAC12 does what his mom tells him and stops calling them.
Utah finally sees its over and calls back Stud Big12 "I guess I'll go out with you. But it's got to be at that expensive Full Share 'all you can eat buffet'."

Utah sees people snickering that she doesn't belong on the date. Then she sits down and breaks a chair.

Utah's response: "I was excited to be going out with you, but not anymore. I was robbed of a sturdy chair and the respect I deserve."
