camp. I drove from Colorado all the way over the day before with my mom.
I had read that there was going to be a three on three tournament during the camp.
So the first morning before the camp started I decided to go all around the gym and try to find the two best players that were warming up and shooting around that I could.
I spotted two black guys and I said to myself, welp, this may be racial profiling but let's go talk to these guys. They said they were from Georgia and they were really nice. We played some 21 together and then shared some basketball stories. I was 6'1 and they were 6 ft and 5'11.
I could tell that all three of us were quick and could shoot so I started talking with them about if they thought our quickness could beat a team full of tall guys or a mixture of shorter quicker guys and tall guys or another team of just quick guys, etc. Almost instantly we decided that we could. And on the spot agreed to all be on the same three on three team.
The 3on3 tournament was a couple days later and we ended up in the finals against a team of super tall guys.
The whole camp watched the finals. Most people thought the tall team was going to win as they had been crushing most teams.
We were super hyped as the underdogs and just came out aggressive with nothing to lose. We caught on fire from three and didn't really have to worry about rebounding against them since we were making so many and then when they tried to get up into us we pretty easily were driving past them and either dishing or making a layup. They were missing their threes and their twos weren't catching them up to us. I just remember them getting so frustrated.
Anyway, we won and it felt good. We thought for sure some college coaches were going to want to come talk to us after that lol but the only ones that did were the lower level college coaches that were there helping. Never saw those two kids again and sometimes wonder what happened to them.
And now you know that.
.. CB is my new Journal:)
Don't get my hopes up and lie and say you are one of the kids from Georgia either:)
