BYU Men’s Cross-Country shocks Oklahoma State and wins Big12s. My breakdown.
Places in parentheses are actual vs. CWC projection.

1. Casey Clinger (3rd vs. 4th)
In an elite field he showed he will be up front with the leaders at Nationals. After 5k he was in 8th and then moved up 5 spots in the last 3k. This was a very, very smart race and has to build his confidence going forward.

2. James Corrigan (7th vs. 7th)
I believe he is now BYU’s clear #2 runner. He keeps getting better and better at Cross-Country. He passed two Oklahoma State guys in the last 1k, which was huge for the team race.

3. Joey Nokes (8th vs. 10th)
He ran with James Corrigan almost the entire time and ran a really, really solid race. Like James he passed two Oklahoma State guys in the last 1k, which helped the Cougs pull off the upset.

4. Creed Thompson (11th vs. 11th)
He went out a little too fast and paid for it in the last 1k. At 7k he was running with James and Joey but ended up finishing seven seconds behind them. Still a solid race for him.

5. Lucas Bons (12th vs. 17th)
A great race from him. At 7k he was five seconds behind Creed but then caught up to him at the finish. Only finished 8 seconds behind James Corrigan. Gives BYU three legit #5 runners.

6. Davin Thompson (15th vs. 18th)
Ran a very steady race. After 3k he was in 15th or 16th place the entire time. He’s coming off of injury and ran within himself.

7. Aidan Troutner (25th vs. 14th)
Had the most disappointing race on the team. In prior years he’s tailed off in the last few races of the season. Hoping he can turn that around at Nationals.

8. Luke Grundvig (30th vs. 27th)

9. Garrett Stanford (35th vs. 36th)

10. Jacob Stanford (42nd vs. 22nd)
